FedRAMP AI Prioritization

Effective Date: Monday, August 18, 2025

In response to formal recommendations from the FedRAMP Board (by electronic vote) and the Chief Information Officers Council (by electronic notification), FedRAMP will begin prioritizing certain AI cloud services for FedRAMP authorization. This page explains the criteria and process for prioritization as required by the FedRAMP Authorization Act.

Prioritization Criteria

FedRAMP is now prioritizing the authorization of AI-based cloud services that provide access to conversational AI engines designed for routine and repeated use by federal workers. To ensure this prioritization in the best interest of the federal government, such services must meet all of the following criteria to be prioritized:

  • Offer enterprise-grade features including single-sign on, SCIM provisioning, role-based access control, and real-time analytics

  • Guarantee data separation and protection; any model information from training on customer data will not leave the customer environment without customer authorization

  • Establish demand from at least five CFO Act agencies or be specifically recommended by the CIO Council

  • Be available for government use via the GSA Multiple Award Schedule program

  • Be able to meet the requirements for a FedRAMP 20x authorization within two months of acceptance for prioritization

Prioritization Process

Cloud service providers who receive prioritization under this criteria will follow a separate process similar to the FedRAMP 20x Phase One pilot:

  • Cloud service providers who meet this criteria should reach out directly to the FedRAMP Director via pete@fedramp.gov to discuss next steps.

  • Providers will be required to meet all Initial Submission Requirements for the 20x Phase One pilot.

  • Providers will receive additional pre-submission support from FedRAMP.

  • 20xP1 pilot submissions will be accepted outside the standard submission window; there is no deadline for submission.

  • Providers will receive additional post-authorization support from FedRAMP and the FedRAMP Board to encourage adoption.

List of Prioritized Services

No services have currently demonstrated their full commitment and ability to meet these criteria. This list will be updated as services qualify for prioritization.
